Merry Christmas

Christmas Letter time of year again! I’ve done quite a few of these and I pride myself in coming up with unique themes to make everyone smile. So I settled on the Chinese Zodiac thinking it could be of interest. For instance, 2017 was the year of the “Fire Rooster”. Well, forest fires were much of the reason that lumber prices ran up over 35%! More thorough research informed me that actually it is one’s birth year sign and how it reacts to the current year that is predictive. I am a “Tiger". According to the Zodiac, ”Tigers” will receive help from colleagues and friends in the year of the “Rooster”. Nice, but I must be living in the movie “Ground Hog Day” because that “help” keeps occurring year after year since 1984 when Alliance began.

Our company and our industry is filled with so many people who love what they do and who work hard to support each other. I have been privileged over the decades to be surrounded by valued colleagues, customers and vendors, many of whom I consider long-time friends. It’s both fun as well as a source of pride as I travel throughout our cities and state and see so many special projects that we’ve collectively collaborated to create. Another one of my favorite sources of enjoyment comes from our truck drivers. I love being pulled aside by one of the drivers who tells me that a contractor on a jobsite has sent along a hello. That longevity of friendship and productive collaboration is truly a wonderful gift for which I am boundlessly appreciative.

It is profoundly important to me, that during this season of giving thanks and gift-giving, that I acknowledge and express appreciation of everyone who contributes to this chain of teamwork that is such a great source of pride. Alliance is so much more now than in the beginning.

Selling just lumber is where we started in 1984. We have adapted to a changing market, as any business should. We now have trusses, strong enough to hold 8 large reindeer, hardware and nails that come in bags that even Santa would envy, generators strong enough to satisfy “Clark Griswold”, ladders for that holiday lighting project, engineered wood to support the largest of holiday gatherings and the pallets and custom crates for shipping those challenging extra- large gifts. Wait! There’s more! Core, a wholesale company is full of wonderful folks who help spread cheer throughout the manufacturing and distribution world. ASL in Eagar, Arizona provides the industry’s strongest glue laminated timbers – which makes reindeer roof landings possible.

Because so many of us are used to a fast pace like last minute Christmas shoppers, we send a special thank you to our suppliers and vendors who step up to give us great service. Then there are the wonderful folks in HR, Safety, AP, Transportation, accounting and AR that deserve gratitude for constantly doing such great work behind the scenes- much like the elves in the North Pole. The chain would not be complete if I didn’t send a special thank you to those of you that choose Alliance!

According to the Zodiac, 2018 is the year of the “Dog”. So, in addition to a BIG THANK YOU and Merry Christmas to all, I wish you a Dog-gone terrific New Year!

Have a safe and wonderful holiday season,

True Carr.
